Project description

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology has acquired EKTA’s interactive LED WOWFloor with 32 mm pixel pitch to create an experimental space in one of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology’s lecture halls. The WOWFloor’s unique interactivity is achieved thanks to the use of inbuilt capacity sensors which the visitor can interact with a vast verity of visual images displayed on the surface of the WOWFloor. A specially designed versatile control system enables a playback feature of different visual effects, graphic arts, and full-colour video. The WOWFloor totaling 19.2 square meters is installed in a mirrored hall that aims both to inspire future designers and architects and conduct perspective and optical illusion experiments.

The installation interacts with different levels of human perception: one flow of content is always optimized for reading, putting an emphasis on the meaning of information, as the other lines play with scales, rhythms, and accelerations to create a landscape of sensation. Ultimately Porte des Savoirs is based on the dichotomy between the content and the form, immersing the viewer into the aesthetic dimension of knowledge.
